Jupiter Artland at Bonnington House

Near Ratho, Edinburgh

Set within the grounds of Bonnington House, Jupiter Artland is a modern sculpture park full of contemporary work by international and national artists, opened to the public in May 2009 to great success. It also provides support for educational and private groups.

Life was brought back to the derelict steading and courtyard, providing an Artist's Bothy, Studio, Education Room, Offices and Reception, creating flexible and generous spaces.

The buildings were in a poor state of repair and have been repaired, taking care to preserve the character and as much of the original fabric as possible.  New additions are in a contrasting, though sympathetic style.  Close attention has been paid to details, including cast iron 'door mats' and 'branch' door handles.  'Sputnik' Entrance Gates were designed, in galvanised painted and polished stainless steel, to provide a suitable introduction to the Sculpture Park.

The sensitive alterations and repairs to the existing buildings and the Landscape Masterplan were key to gaining the complete Planning Approval.
